I found Dina Goldstein online a while ago and liked her work because it addressed a lot of issues and brought up a lot of the same questions I have asked about the characters that influence little girls in society. Her Disney Princess series is what really got me hooked and she continues to take amazing photographs today. Oh and her daughters name is Jordan, so there is that.
Here are my favorite works from her Fallen Princesses Exhibit:

Dina Goldstein lives in Vancouver but has had her work exhibited in galleries and museums internationally. She considers her photographs pop surrealism and specializes in editorial and documentary photography. Dina's work has sparked international responses and she has some very good themes behind her pieces.
What does she do?
Goldstein creates different series of photographs that "echo current beauty standards, but evoke feelings of shame, anger, shock and empathy from the observer so as to inspire insight into the human condition." This artist uses icons like Disney princesses and Barbie to force the viewer to think of real life problems such as pollution, ocean degradation, obesity, war, cancer, extinction of cultures, materialism and so so many more. It is amazing that she can address so many issues in only a few photographs.
Why she inspires me?
This artist is inspirational to me because she is one, a great female artist and two she is a smart female artist that cares about real issues and wants to make them known in her work. She makes a statement and that is something that I also strive to do within my own artworks. Goldstein stops viewers in their tracks and makes them really think about life and the world and that is such an inspiration to me. This artist has a lot of similar ideas and values that I have and because of this I really enjoy her work.
Below are some photos from her In the Dollhouse series. To see more of her work visit: http://dinagoldstein.com/.
